Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart sprains ankle, sports crutches
Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart sprained his right ankle during the second quarter of Sunday's game versus the Jets and was carted away from the field a few minutes later. According to the Charlotte Observer's Joe Person, Stewart was on crutches after the game. However, head coach Ron Rivera said X-rays on Stewart's ankle came back "completely negative." Rivera also said he didn't think Stewart had the dreaded high ankle sprain.
Stewart has already been ruled out for Thursday's preseason finale, but that's nothing. We should get another update on Stewart's condition Monday after an MRI. DeAngelo Williams would get a bump in value if Stewart has to miss any playing time. If I had to guess, I think Stewart is very questionable for Week 1. Two weeks isn't much time for even a run-of-the-mill sprained ankle to heal.
