Chargers RB Ryan Mathews says he's 'definitely ahead of schedule'

San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews @rmathews24 is a fast healer. Well, at least that's what he will tell you if you talk to him. The North County TImes did recently and -- no surprise -- Mathews said his fractured clavicle is healing quiicker than expected.
"I'm definitely ahead of schedule," Mathews said. "I've always been a fast healer, and that's proving true right now. My range of motion is improving, and I'm feeling really good. I've been staying upbeat about an unfortunate situation, and everything I do right now is about getting healthy. Honestly, I can't wait to get back on the field."

Fantasy Analysis:

We know, Ryan. We know. Mathews is about two and a half weeks into his recovery that was said to take a minimum of four weeks. Chargers beat writers have said they don't expect Mathews to play before Week 3, but the man himself is bent on playing in two weeks from today versus the Oakland Raiders. If he can play in that opener, his current third-round ADP presents quite a steal. But as always, I am skeptical. You can never fully trust what an athlete says about his own health.

I can take him @ 16 overall in a PPR and would not sweat 2 game missed but with Matthews history, 2 week might turn into 6 and.......................

Yep, I understand. If Mathews can come back by Week 3 and stay healthy, where you two choose him -- 16 and 19 -- might turn out really well for you. But that is one enormous "if."

There's so many RB's with question marks, be it with injuries, fickle coaches (Belichick, Shanahan), or the dreaded "commitee" approach (Saints, Panthers), taking some risks when drafting for this position is inevitable.

I couldn't believe he was still sitting there for me at #32. I grabbed him without hesitation.
