There's no ligament or bone damage associated with the ankle injury that Detroit Lions running back Kevin Smith
suffered Saturday. He has assured everyone that it's not a high ankle sprain. However, Smith was held out of practice Monday to rest the ankle. He told Tim Twentymen of the Lions' official web site that it's "just a tweak and nothing serious." Head coach Jim Schwartz said it's likely that Smith and other injured players won't play in Thursday's preseason finale.
Fantasy Analysis:
I blame myself. One day after I post a note about how Smith said he feels "excellent," he goes out and gets hurt. I should have known better; I should have known how brittle Smith is. I thought he would at least go longer than a day without sustaining an injury, but that's Kevin Smith these days. I suspect the ankle won't be much of a problem or no problem at all when the Lions open their regular season in 13 days versus the St. Louis Rams. I'll say again that he should be a very fine flex option early in the season, but understand that he will probably miss a chunk a time at some point.
