Those were the words in the headline above Thursday's article about Brandon Jacobs
on CSNBayArea.com. Jacobs suffered a gruesome-looking knee injury Aug. 18 versus the Houston Texans. Fortunately for him, it looked worse than it was; Jacobs ended up with a left knee sprain. According to CSN's Matt Maiocco, Jacobs has made "noticeable progress" as he tries to get well in time for Week 1. The 49ers haven't said he will play, but they haven't ruled him out either.
Fantasy Analysis:
Jacobs is a cog in the Niners' crowded, specialized backfield. Frank Gore is still the lead guy, but there looks to be three other RBs who will get some touches. Kendall Hunter
and rookie LaMichael James
are both small, quick, pass-catching backs who can change the pace. And Jacobs is the bruiser as he's always been. He should score quite a few short touchdowns, but he doesn't carry much more value past that. He'll be boom-or-bust, but his upside isn't very high.
