Cowboys will play it safe with TE Jason Witten

If tight end Jason Witten
is 100 percent and ready to play Wednesday versus the New York Giants, he will be in the starting lineup. But if he's limited at all, you should expect the Cowboys to hold him out. Witten has yet to be medically cleared after suffering a lacerated spleen in Week 1 of the preseason, and the Cowboys know that benching Witten for the Giants game would allow him another 10 days to get to full strength before their next game.
"It's ultimately our decision because no one can go on the field if I don't want him on there and certainly that holds true for the head coach as well," owner Jerry Jones said Frday. "Now obviously we're here to win the ballgames but not at the cost of the literal well-being -- well-being -- of any individual."
Fantasy Analysis:
So again, Witten is 50-50, at best, for this opener. I think he will miss that game and come back in Week 2. If you can get Witten at a discount for missing just one week, take it. According to FFToolbox, he is now the No. 7 tight end off the board, going in the middle of the seventh round.
