Chargers RB Ryan Mathews practices for first time since Aug. 9

For most injured players, practicing on Monday of a game week isn't as noteworthy as practicing on Thursday or Friday. But if you haven't practiced in nearly a month, any day of practice is pretty important. Such is the case with Chargers running back Ryan Mathews @rmathews24. He ran routes and caught passes during individual drills Monday. Mathews didn't practice with the team and still hasn't been cleared for contact, but he said he's not in pain about four weeks after fracturing a clavicle.
"Everything is good," Mathews said. "I have full motion in my arm and everything. I have no pain or anything, so it's good."
Mathews said he is "very hopeful" that he'll be able to play Sept. 10 versus the Raiders.

Fantasy Analysis:

In my opinion, Mathews has about a 50-50 chance of playing a week from now, but as with every injured player, we'll know more a few days closer to kickoff. You should stay away from the committee of Ronnie Brown, Curtis Brinkley @boonah920 and Le'Ron McClain @LeRon_McClain33 if Mathews isn't cleared to play. But it sounds like he'll be ready to suit up no later than Week 2.
