The Cowboys' official web site states today that tight end Jason Witten
is listed as doubtful on the Week 1 injury report. Witten underwent a CT scan on his injured spleen Tuesday, but the results have not been disclosed. Odds are that John Phillips will start for the Cowboys on Wednesday night against the Giants while Witten rests.
Fantasy Analysis:
That "doubtful" designation sure gives the sense that Witten's scan didn't lead to medical clearance for contact. This was expected all along, and Witten will have a much stronger chance of playing next week than tomorrow night. The 10 days between games will do him a lot of good. Phillips is an option only for the desperate. He caught 15 passes in 16 games last season; I don't expect him to get more than five or six targets versus the Giants.
