Wide receiver Randy Moss
has made a move up the 49ers' depth chart. He was listed as a co-starter next to Mario Manningham
for most of training camp, but the team's latest depth chart, which was released Tuesday, shows Moss as a starter alongside Michael Crabtree
. Manningham and Kyle Williams are listed as second-string receivers.
Fantasy Analysis:
One of my close friends and I have completely different viewpoints on Moss this season. He credits Moss' quiet preseason to team trying to "hide" him from defenses, not showcasing him until the regular season. And when the regular season begins, he's going to be unleashed and will surpass all expectations.
I think Moss, 35, can still play, but I think he's the third-best receiver -- behind at least Crabtree and Vernon Davis -- on a team that still stresses the running game. Plus, I doubt Alex Smith's ability to hit Moss on one of those patented jump balls deep down the field. He should be a common target around the goal line because of his size, but I think Moss will be a mediocre bye-week replacement.
However, considering his history against the Green Bay Packers, it would be apropos if Moss turns back the clock on Sunday.
