Team doctors for the Dallas Cowboys have cleared tight end Jason Witten
for Week 2. Dallas has not released the results of the CT scan of Witten's spleen. All reports indicate that Witten will not play in Wednesday night's regular season opener against the New York Giants. That information, according to Pro Football Talk, comes from a league source. Witten was downgraded to doubtful earlier in the week, all but sealing his fate to sit out for now.
Fantasy Analysis:
Witten tumbled down draft boards and anyone who got him a few rounds later than usual should consider it a success that he will only miss one game. Of course, his conditioning may need work as well. Considering Witten's consistency over the years, he's a great buy-low candidate too. He'll be ready in Week 2 to play the Seattle Seahawks and by skipping Week 1, he'll get 10 more days of rest. For those who are playing a really deep league, take a chance on backup tight end John Phillips, a fourth-year tight end from the University of Virginia.
