The Redskins' official Twitter account tweeted "GM Bruce Allen on possibly re-signing TE Chris Cooley: 'Yes, absolutely that door is still open. We have a meeting next week.'" The coaching staff decided to release him when making cuts for the 53-man roster. Fred Davis
is now the No. 1 TE and is a popular sleeper for fantasy owners. Cooley has been dealing with injuries off an on since the 2009 season.
Fantasy Analysis:
For those outside the DC/MD/VA beltway area, it may not make a ton of sense why Redskins' fans are so enamored with Cooley. The truth is that the guy bleeds burgundy, gold, and white. He represented the area, he brought his entire family here, did a ton for the community, and was generally highly-regarded by his fan base. His impact went beyond the stats. When he was cut, it was intensely scrutinized by the media and the fan base. Cooley won't have much of a fantasy impact if he does return, but he's an example of when those things don't really matter.
