Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall officially doubtful for Week 1

A week of overly encouraging reports about Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall @R_Mendenhall has ended with a sensible and pretty much expected result: Mendenhall is listed as doubtful for Sunday night's matchup with the Broncos.

Fantasy Analysis:

The Steelers stated Mendenhall practiced on Wednesday and Thursday. It is unknown what he was able to do Friday. Regardless, he's not going to play this week and probably next week, either. I think Week 3 could be his first realistic shot of being active on a Sunday. For now, the Steelers will move forward with Isaac Redman @ired33, Jonathan Dwyer @JDwyer27 and Chris Rainey @crainey3. Redman is listed as probable, but he has been bothered by an ankle injury lately. Rainey is purely a change-of-pace runner, so Dwyer looks to be the main guy in this backfield right now. If you're looking for a flex option, I think Dwyer could pay off against the Broncos.
