Chargers RB Ryan Mathews realizes he won't play Monday night

The reality has finally set in for Chargers running back Ryan Mathews @rmathews24. He wanted to play Monday night; that's been his goal since fracturing his clavicle on his first play of the preseason. But he finally admitted Friday that's no longer realistic. He accepts that he will miss the season opener versus the Raiders.
"I haven't been cleared for contact, and I think we're just going to wait this week," Mathews told U-T San Diego. "I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing. ... I have to have the mindset right. I probably won't be playing in this game. But the next game, that's what I'm looking for now. I don't know about the team, but me personally, now I'm looking for that (Week 2) game against Tennessee."

Fantasy Analysis:

We will check in on Mathews next week, but it's nice that we no longer have to consider him for Week 1. Now we can focus on whether you should start Ronnie Brown on your fantasy team.
Ugh. Starting Ronnie Brown on your fantasy team? That could take some fortitude, but he does stand to get the majority of the carries in this game for San Diego. However, as head coach Norv Turner previously said, he'll be splitting carries with Curtis Brinkley @boonah920 and Le'Ron McClain @LeRon_McClain33. McClain will probably get the goal-line looks, too. The possible opportunity and matchup are good enough that Brown is worth flex consideration in 12-team leagues. But expectations shouldn't be high.

Thank you. I'm in a weird situation, and this helps.

I've got Lynch and Turbin, Gerhart, and Ronnie Brown all vying for one spot among my starters. All injury-impacted RBs in the first game: strange. Going with Gerhart, unless Lynch is out before the early games.

Because I heavily doubt you'll get firm word on Lynch's status -- he is expected to play, but it isn't official -- I would play it safe with Gerhart. Yes, Peterson might get 10 or so touches. But Gerhart is a strong bet for at least 15+ touches of his own. I fear that even if Lynch plays, the Seahawks will have him split carries with Turbin so as not to overwork him.
