Falcons CB Brent Grimes on IR with torn Achilles' tendon

At his Monday morning press conference, Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith shocked everyone by announcing that "Brent Grimes @BGrimes20 had an MRI and it indicated that he has an Achilles tendon injury and he will be placed on the reserve-injured list'. The injury means he will be lost for the season. A Pro Bowl player in 2010, Grimes was a key cog in the Falcons secondary as he registered 35 tackles, 12 assists, and one interception during the 2011 NFL season.

Fantasy Analysis:

Ranked as a lower end top 12 Fantasy defense, this is bad news for the Falcons who, according to Smith, now face an "It's the next-man-up mentality, and that's how you have to approach it" scenario. While outside backs CB Asante Samuel and CB Dunta Robinson can shore up the Falcons base defense, Atlanta will now have a major hole to fill when they go to their nickel package. If the Falcons are your top defense, you should start scanning the waiver wire. This is especially true when you consider the fact that QB Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos suddenly potent passing attack roll into the Georgia Dome for Week Two NFL Monday Night action.
