Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune tweeted that San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner said running back Ryan Mathews
could be cleared for contract on Wednesday or potentially next week. Mathews was aiming for a Week 1 return, yet it's still no guarantee that he will play in Week 2. Turner is taking a "wait-and-see" approach.
Fantasy Analysis:
The Chargers didn't need Mathews to secure a victory over the Oakland Raiders during Monday Night Football. San Diego rushed for 32 yards on 20 carries though as their defense and passing attack won the game. Mathews is the key piece that makes this offense work. Once he is reinserted into the starting lineup, he will be a considered a fantasy must-start. It's clear after one week that San Diego can't generate a viable run game without him. Curtis Brinkley
and Ronnie Brown combined for 17 rushing yards on 15 carries.
