It wasn't an eye-popping, presses-halting performance, but Jonathan Dwyer
looked to be the Steelers' best running back Sunday night in Denver. He gained 54 yards on 11 touches. Isaac Redman
gained 27 yards on 13 touches, and Rashard Mendenhall
didn't play. Head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday it's probable Dwyer will be rewarded for his outing.
"I thought Jonathan Dwyer provided a spark play and represented himself well and will probably get an increased opportunity because of it," Tomlin said.
Fantasy Analysis:
It's early in the week and nothing has been confirmed, but it seems like Mendenhall will miss Week 2 versus the Jets as well, leaving Dwyer, Redman and Chris Rainey
to carry the load. But mostly Dwyer. He was inches away from scoring against the Broncos, averaged nearly five yards per carry and now gets to face a defense that got absolutely scorched by C.J. Spiller. Granted, Spiller and Dwyer are two very different runners, but the opportunity, as Tomlin mentioned, should be there for the 230-pounder to put up a nice fantasy line. He's currently No. 37 in FFToolbox's RB rankings for Week 2, but I think he's easily worth a flex play. He should get 15-17 touches at the very least, including everything down by the end zone.
