Chargers RB Ryan Mathews unlikely to play

ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted that San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews @rmathews24 is not likely to play in Week 2 against the Teneessee Titans. Speculation throughout the week pointed to Mathews sitting this game out, particularly the local beat writers around the team. Given his original prognosis, a Week 2 return would have been an optimistic possibility. After only very recently being cleared for physical contact, it's likely that Mathews simple needs more time to fully heal from his broken collarbone.

Fantasy Analysis:

For now, Mathews should be considered a likely start in Week 3. Given the Chargers' inability to run the ball in their opening regular season game against the Oakland Raiders, fantasy owners shouldn't have any confidence in RBs Curtis Brinkley @boonah920 or Ronnie Brown. This should be considered a big boost to the healthy San Diego offensive playmakers, but an unbalanced attack could mean a potential loss and a 1-1 record after two games. As previously mentioned, Brown and Brinkley will more than likely again split carries. Tennessee is currently ranked 31st in the NFL against the run.
