Redskins LB Brian Orakpo, DL Adam Carriker out for season

One day after their loss in St. Louis, the Washington Redskins found out that they lost two important defensive players for the rest of the season. Head coach Mike Shanahan announced Monday that linebacker Brian Orakpo @rak98 and defensive end Adam Carriker @AdamCarriker94 will be placed on injured reserve after they tore muscles during Sunday's game. Orapko re-tore his left pectoral muscle and will need surgery. He suffered the same injury during Week 17 of the 2011 season and underwent surgery in January.
Carriker, whom the Redskins re-signed to a four-year deal during the offseason, will also need to be prepped for the operating room after tearing a quadriceps muscle.

Fantasy Analysis:

Suddenly, the Redskins' defensive front has been gutted. Orakpo recorded 29 sacks in his first three NFL seasons, and Carriker had 5.5 sacks last year, so opposing quarterbacks will figure to have a little more ease in the pocket while facing Washington. Expect the pass defense to really suffer in Washington without those two. And while it's callous to say right now, this is probably good news for Robert Griffin's fantasy value as the Redskins will probably be involved in a bunch of high-scoring games going forward.
