Matt Vensel, a blogger with the Baltimore Sun, broke down Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta's usage and play count across the field last week. First and foremost, Pitta saw 15 targets and played 51 offensive snaps. On those plays, "he lined up as a wide receiver or slot receiver more than two-thirds of the time." Vensel also notes that when lined up as an in-line blocker, like a traditional tight end, he was often run-blocking and saw no targets.
Fantasy Analysis:
An interesting analysis here and this is the sort of information that fantasy nuts should be thirsting for. Usage, snap count, where a guy lines up, how many targets he sees from each spot and so on. As long as the Ravens keep lining up Pitta out-wide, there's no reason to consider his production a fluke. Pitta is a PPR gem right now and is ahead of TE Ed Dickson
on the depth chart. If he's still available on the waiver wire, give him a chance.
