The New York Giants pummeled Carolina Thursday night with a decisive 36-7 win. Panthers QB Cam Newton completed 16-of-30 passes for 242 yards with no TDs and three picks. He did run in his team's lone score, but he only managed six rushing yards. By containing Newton, particularly on read option plays, the second-year QB couldn't stay comfortable in the pocket and negated his typical rushing prowess.
Fantasy Analysis:
Carolina's inability to pass protect led to Newton playing out of control and frustrated. For all that his made about Newton's talents, he has a sometimes reckless style of play. Whether he's forcing passes downfield or throwing off his back foot, the former Auburn star still has much to learn about not simply falling back on his athleticism or strong arm. This matchup should have favored Newton as the Giants struggled to defend the pass in their first two games yet after it was over, Newton had the worst game of his career. Consistency is the biggest concern moving forward.
