Lions will know if QB Matthew Stafford can play in Week 4 by Friday

So, Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford @Staff_9 underwent that scheduled MRI on his right leg Monday. As has been head coach Jim Schwartz's modus operandi with injuries, he offered a no comment when asked what the MRI showed. However, Schwartz did say that a decision will be made on Stafford's availablility for Detroit's next game by Friday. ProFootballTalk.com has been told by a league source that Stafford has a hamstring injury, and "For now, the expectation is that he should be OK." The injury is one that Stafford said he originally suffered during the most recent practice week and aggravated while chasing down a defender on a fumble return in the fourth quarter of Sunday's overtime loss to the Titans. The Lions will host the Vikings in Week 4.

Fantasy Analysis:

Pick up Shaun Hill as soon as you can. He doesn't have Stafford-type skills, but he has proven to be very adequate at moving the Lions' offense when asked in the past. He threw two touchdown passes in less than 20 seconds on Sunday -- with a little dumb luck involved. But still, he can point up the points.
Stafford looked generally solid against Tennessee, but he still hasn't thrown for more than one touchdown in any game this season. And now he has this hamstring issue, which might hold him out of a game if the Lions want to play it safe; knowing they have a bye in Week 5. Stafford remains a very strong fantasy option, but I'm not sure if he's in that elite, must-start-no-matter-what class right now.

I've got Stafford in a league with 4 pt per TD and .05 pts per passing yard. Rivers is my backup and I don't like his history / chances with KC
Ponder, Alex Smith, Sanchez, and Kolb are all available. Hill is available, but I think picking him up is not the best option. Opinions?

GMO - personally, I'd roll with Hill, then Smith. Hill can move the DET O, as previously proven and again this past week. Alex Smith would be my other option as the Jets D will be without Revis.

I would roll with Ponder as he is going against a weak Detroit secondary who has been giving up a ton of points and yards to opposing QBs. Ponder takes care of the ball and can also run.

I would also go with Hill. Both he and Ponder have nice matchups in the same game, but Hill is going to throw a lot more, and we've seen him put up big numbers in place of Stafford before. Plus, he finds a way to get the ball to Calvin, which always helps.
