CBS Sports' NFL insider Jason La Canfora tweeted that Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte
is "likely to be out at least through this week." In addition, Chicago is working out free agent RB Ryan Grant as a temporary backup. With Forte out, the team only has three backs listed on the depth chart: Michael Bush
, Armando Allen
, and Kahlil Bell
. The latest report previous to this came from head coach Lovie Smith who stated that Forte's playing status had yet to be determined although potentially signing Grant is in stark contrast to that remark.
Fantasy Analysis:
Forte owners shouldn't get their hopes up. Bell had 10 carries in his first week back with the team while Allen has been a non-factor. Bush should continue to see the lion's share of touches, as evidenced by the 20 touches given to him against the St. Lous Rams in Week 3. Fantasy owners shouldn't yet go after Grant on the waiver wire until team shows a commitment to utilize him. This offense, while impressive in their regular season opener, has only scored 16 points in their last two games. Having Forte back can't come soon enough.
