Packers RB Cedric Benson ruled out for Week 6

Packers running running back Cedric Benson @Cedric_Benson has already been ruled out for this week's game versus the Texans. Benson suffered a left foot injury during the second quarter of Sunday's loss to the Colts and was seen wearing a walking boot after the game. Not many specifics have been made public about the injury, but head coach Mike McCarthy will be looking toward other options in his backfield in Week 6.

Fantasy Analysis:

Benson said after the game that his X-rays came back clean, and he doesn't think he has a Lisfranc sprain. But the fact that he was ruled out six days ahead of kickoff probably means this isn't just a one-week thing for Benson. Alex Green @AGreen_20, James Starks @James44Starks and John Kuhn are expected to split the carries in Benson's absence. I don't like any of them all that much against at the Texans this week, but Green is the most interesting back of the three and the first guy I'd pick up if I wanted a runner from Green Bay.

The Journal Sentinel is now reporting Benson will miss 8 weeks with a Lisfranic injury (the same injury Matt Schaub had last year). The J-S also states that Benson could miss the entire season if surgery is required.

As an avid follower of the Pack, I can't recommend any of the above as a solid fantasy play (save for Kuhn in a TD only format). Starks was expected to be "the guy" heading into training camp. He faltered badly before his injury, which is what caused Ted Thompson to sign Benson. Starks and Green each show some occasional flash, but neither is consistent and both are injury prone. Kuhn will be the primary 3rd down back as he is the only one of the three who is solid in pass protection.
