Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said Monday that running back Trent Richardson has rib cartilage damage and is day-to-day. Richardson suffered the injury Sunday versus the Bengals and didn't play for most of the second half. Montario Hardesty
filled in for the rookie with 16 touches for 65 yards and a short touchdown. Richardson gained 54 yards from scrimmage on 16 touches prior to departing.
Fantasy Analysis:
With a rib cartilage injury, a couple of things are clear: Richardson is going to miss practice this week and will almost certainly be a game-time decision for Week 7. Whether he is active or not will likely come down to his ability to play through pain, because he's going to be feeling a lot of pain. The Browns will probably put a protective vest around Richardson's ribs, but he is still going to be feeling it if he plays. Maybe some good news is that Willis McGahee suffered a similar type of injury earlier this year, didn't miss any game time and actually ended up running for more than 100 yards and a score against the Raiders in his next game.
The Browns face the Colts next week, so whoever starts are running back for Cleveland is going to be worth a play. Pick up Hardesty now. We'll update Richardson's status throughout the week.
