Beat writers and those in the fantasy world have been wondering about the status of Lions running back Jahvid Best
for days now. He is eligible to come off the Physically Unable to Perform list this week if he can gain medical clearance from doctors.
Unfortuntately for Best, he didn't gain that clearance and according to a statement released by the team, Best "will not be permitted to return to play at this time.
"Jahvid will continue to work with our medical and training staffs with the hope that he ultimately will be cleared to return to the playing field."
Due to his history of concussions, it has been about a year since Best played in an NFL game.
Fantasy Analysis:
Many outlets have reported that Best has been ruled out for the rest of the season. But the wording of the press release seems to leave the door open just a sliver for a 2012 return. However, the odds of Best being put on injured reserve in the near future seem pretty high. I was one of those people who picked Best up last week, hoping that he would be a factor in the season's second half. It doesn't appear like that's going to happen. Those in redraft leagues can feel free to drop him. Mikel Leshoure
and Joique Bell
will continue to get the work out of the Lions' backfield.
