The Philadelphia Eagles have fired defensive coordinator Juan Castillo. The former offensive line coach has been under pressure for quite some time even though the Eagles rank favorably statistically: 12th in total defense, 15th in pass defense, 15th in run defense, 30th in sacks, and 13th in points allowed per game. Head coach Andy Reid said, "We're six games into the season and average isn't good enough." Former Miami Dolphins interim head coach Todd Bowles will take over for Castillo.
Fantasy Analysis:
On the other hand, the Eagles rank 27th in points scored, 31st in turnover margin, and tied for sixth in penalties. The defense, as far as I'm concerned, is not the issue. An offense with Michael Vick
, DeSean Jackson
, Jeremy Maclin
, and Brent Celek
should be scoring more points and playing a more effecient style of football. Could the defense be playing better? Probably. Scapegoating Castillo makes no sense to me and sounds like a decision made by an executive.
