In spite of widely spread rumors that the Carolina Panthers may move running back DeAngelow Williams, general manager Brandon Beane insisted that they "are not trading anyone." With the trade deadline less than an hour away at the time of this update, this news ends any speculation that the Panthers would negotiate a deal for the former Memphis running back.
Fantasy Analysis:
Williams is set to earn $4.75 million in 2013, $5.75 million in 2014, and $6.75 million in 2015. Trading him away now would incur a sizable hit on 2013's salary cap and Carolina may not feel they would be receiving enough via a trade to offset those losses. Previous reports were saying just yesterday that there was a "viable chance" Williams would be traded. The 29-year-old is an overvalued commodity in fantasy leagues and he is currently on pace to have his least productive season since his rookie season. Something drastic like an injury to Jonathan Stewart
would be the only feasible way for him to turn it around in 2012.
