The media has forced Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier to answer questions about the potential (or lack thereof) benching of quarterback Christian Ponder
. "I really haven't thought about pulling him for a game and taking him out for a series or anything like that," Frazier said. "There are times where he needs to stay in the pocket a little bit longer. He needs to stay patient." The second-year QB has thrown eight INTs in his last five games. For what it's worth, Joe Webb is Minnesota's backup QB.
Fantasy Analysis:
The Vikings have lost three of their last four after a hot 4-1 start. An early season win over San Francisco may have inflated expectations for a team few thought had any realistic shot at making the playoffs. I say this to put Minnesota's skid into some kind of context. After completing 69-percent of his passes through seven games, Ponder's completion percentage has plummeted in his last three games (51.3%). If second-year QBs can't have the occasional bad stretch, most teams wouldn't have a quarterback at all. Ponder remains a decent backup but his remaining schedule (Detroit, Chicago twice, Green Bay twice, St. Louis, and Houston) is about as tough as it gets.
