Sports Illustrated writer Peter King speculated recently that Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez
may retire following the 2012 NFL season. Gonzalez stated he feels there is a "95 percent" chance he will retire. He added, "My big fear is someone telling me, 'You ain't got it anymore.' I will never get called into a coach's office and hear that. If something like what happened to Alex Rodriguez ever happened to me, I'd quit. I'd have to. It'd be too embarrassing."
Fantasy Analysis:
Gonzalez is having yet another great season and there's really no fantasy impact to take take away from this story unless you're playing in a keeper or dynasty league. His career is up there with the legends and he actually ranks second all-time with 1,199 receptions, only behind Jerry Rice. His 99 receiving TDs rank him eight all-time and the list goes on. The 12-time Pro Bowler is a lock for the Hall of Fame and obviously has earned the right to retire on his own terms, whenever that time may be. With the undefeated Falcons rolling right now, there's no keeping Gonzo out of your starting line-up.
