The Atlanta Falcons signed defensive end Ray Edwards
as a free agent from the Minnesota Vikings a couple years ago. In limited action, he tallied 29.5 sacks in his five years with Minnesota. Unfortunately for the Falcons, Edwards only compiled 3.5 sacks in 25 games with the club. Atlanta could live with poor play against the run, but his non-existant pass rush was hurting the team.
Fantasy Analysis:
Not to get too ahead of ourselves, but the 2013 NFL Draft is chock full of defensive ends and may be one of the deepest years for pass rushers in a very long time. Atlanta will rely heavily on DE Kroy Biermann
, even though he only has one sack this season. The Falcons have made great personnel decisions in recent years, but the signing of Edwards was obviously a mistake in hindsight. Another player will have to step up from the depth chart as well because DE John Abraham
doesn't usually play every snap.
