According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Saints running back Darren Sproles
has had a good week of practice. He went through full practices on Thursday and Friday, and he would play against the Raiders if it was up to him. But that decision won't be up to him. Sproles will leave that in the hands of team doctors on Sunday. Sproles' once-fractured hand is still dealing with some swelling, and he is listed as questionable to play.
Fantasy Analysis:
This is a tough situation for fantasy owners. Obviously, Sproles is the best running back that the Saints have, even if they don't use him like a standard RB. But he will basically be a game-time decision for a game that starts at 4:05 p.m. Eastern, and Saints coaches have already said that no matter if Sproles does or doesn't play, Pierre Thomas
, Mark Ingram
and Chris Ivory will all be active. Assuming that Sproles does suit up, I think you have to use him as a flex -- the matchup is really, really good. But there are so many mouths to feed, and it's impossible to know how these four backs will be utilized. If Sproles is out, and I had to choose a player from this situation, I think Mark Ingram would be my choice because of the number of carries he has been getting recently, and the toughness with which he has been running. But man, this is one crowded backfield.
