Perhaps Blaine Gabbert
has thrown his last pass as a Jaguar. That won't be known for some time. What is known is that Gabbert won't throw another pass for the Jaguars this year. He was placed on injured reserve Wedesday due to injuries to his right arm and left shoulder, the latter of which requires surgery. Chad Henne is slated to be the Jaguars' starting quarterback for the final six weeks of the season.
The Jaguars also put wide receiver Laurent Robinson
on IR Wednesday after he suffered his fourth concussion in as many months this past Sunday.
Fantasy Analysis:
Head coach Mike Mularkey said that Henne will open next year's training camp as the starter if he plays well enough through the end of the season. I'm not sure if the Jags' brass would feel comfortable with that eight months from now, but I think it speaks to how poorly Mularkey and the organization think of Gabbert. It's not like this offense is going to turn into a juggernaut with Henne under center, but the change is good news for Cecil Shorts
. At this point, anything else is an upgrade from Gabbert.
The Jaguars had no choice but to remove Robinson. Four concussions in four months is very, very serious business. With Robinson out, maybe Justin Blackmon can prove to an extent that his Week 11 output -- 236 yards -- was a total fluke.
