Saints, head coach Sean Payton agree on 5-year extension

The NFL vetoed the last contract extension that the Saints tried to give to head coach Sean Payton because of some of the contract language. Let's see if this one holds up. Payton and the Saints agreed to terms on a five-year contract extension Friday. Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed, and it still needs to meet league approval. If passed, Payton will be signed through the 2017 season. Payton is under suspension for the entire 2012 campaign due to his role in the team's bounty program.

Fantasy Analysis:

Payton would have been a free agent after this season, but it appears there's no need to worry about that now as the deal will likely be formally announced once Payton's suspension ends in February. Sorry, Jerry Jones. The Saints rank third in the legaue in total points and yards per game, but there was a drop in production with Payton barred from the team. There's no doubt that his presence is a big factor in this offense, so this is good news for Drew Brees @drewbrees and Co. for the next half decade.
