Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch wrote a column yesterday about how the possible departure of Rams offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, who may become someone else's head coach very soon, would be a bad thing for quarterback Sam Bradford. Schottenheimer represents Bradford third offensive coordinator in as many seasons, and Miklasz stresses how that lack of continuity won't allow Bradford to become the quarterback the Rams thought he could be when they took him with the first overall pick in 2010.
Specifically, Bradford was just starting to become comfortable with the up-tempo approach that Schottenheimer and head coach Jeff Fisher implemented near the end of the season, and Miklasz wrote that the two coaches were "planning to turn Bradford loose in 2013 by having him play a more instinctive, free-flow style." But all of that might change if Bradford has to learn under his fourth OC.
Fantasy Analysis:
The fantasy takeaway here being that if Schottenheimer sticks, you can bet that we will see more of this no-huddle, up-tempo offense from the Rams, which will lead to more plays and more passes. More passes means more yards and more touchdowns and more fantasy points. But even Fisher said at the end of the regular season that in order to keep that plan, "you have to maintain continuity." By no means is Bradford going to be a top-12 or even top-15 fantasy QB in the preseason, but his name should be on a few sleeper lists, especially if Schottenheimer isn't lured away.
