The Jaguars will head into the 2013 season with an emphasis on the defensive side of the ball. Jacksonville hired Gus Bradley to be their head coach Thursday. Bradley spent the past four seasons as the Seahawks' defensive coordinator and built up a defense that became one of the league's best. The Seahawks finished inside the top 10 in scoring defense each of the last three seaons. In 2012, the Seahawks ranked first in scoring defense, fourth in yards allowed and tied for fourth in takeaways.
Seattle responded by hiring University of Florida defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to replace Bradley.
One year under the offensive-minded Mike Mularkey didn't work out, but I think he was more a victim of timing and circumstance than bad coaching. The Jaguars' ranked 29th in scoring defense last season, so Bradley should cure some ails there. The fantasy impact of this hire won't be really known until Bradley chooses his OC, and the Jags are rumored to be going after the Saints' Pete Carmichael, which would be a very interesting move.
