The Vikings announced Thursday that running back Adrian Peterson
underwent hernia surgery earlier in the day. Peterson had dealt with the hernia issue since mid-December, but that injury, much like everything else that stood in front of Peterson in 2012, didn't slow him down en route to an historic season. Peterson rushed for 497 yards on 83 carries in the final three games of the regular season and ended up just eight yards shy of breaking the single-season rushing record.
Update: Peterson told ESPN's Josina Anderson that he actually suffered the sports hernia back in Week 10 and that "Each week, it just got worse and worse and worse." This man is just unreal.
Fantasy Analysis:
The team said there are no long-term concerns following this surgery. Considering what Peterson overcame last year, I'm not sure what injury would be of long-term concern to him. Hernia surgeries keep most players out 3-6 weeks. With that timetable, Peterson should reach 100 percent health by this time next Tuesday. All bad jokes aside, Peterson should be the No. 1 player on 2013 fantasy draft boards.
