ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Friday that it's "likely" the Falcons will release running back Michael Turner. He did not specify when the move will come. Turner's scheduled salary for next season is $6.9 million, and the team would save $6.4 million by releasing Turner.
The 31-year-old running back scored nine touchdowns last season, but he averaged just 3.6 yards with his 217 carries.
Fantasy Analysis:
The Falcons have been expected to release Turner before the start of next season; this report makes it feel like Turner's dismissal will come in a matter of days. It will be interesting to see what's next for Turner and the Falcons. Yes, he doesn't fit into their up-tempo offense. But I don't think Jacquizz Rodgers
or really anyone else in that backfield is capable of being a lead running back in the NFL. So perhaps the Falcons bring Turner back as a short-yardage guy on a one-year, low-base contract. Just a thought.
