The biggest news from NFL Combine weekend may have nothing to do with what takes place on the turf in Indianapolis. CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora tweeted Sunday: "The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively complete. Can't be finalized til league year begins 3/12. ... I do not know the other team. KC and JAX are 2 teams that make sense."
Update: Just in case you were wondering, the team in question receiving Alex Smith is not the Cleveland Browns, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Fantasy Analysis:
Following this report, the Florida Times-Union sent a proper text message to Jaguars general manager David Caldwell about a possible Smith trade. According to the Times-Union's Ryan O'Halloran, Caldwell responded via text with "not us." OK.
That leaves the Chiefs as the most sensible choice. But let's be clear: No matter whom the Chiefs' quarterback is last year, it won't really matter for fantasy purposes unless they re-sign Dwayne Bowe
. I am not a Jon Baldwin fan.
