Report: Trade of 49ers QB Alex Smith is 'effectively complete'

The biggest news from NFL Combine weekend may have nothing to do with what takes place on the turf in Indianapolis. CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora tweeted Sunday: "The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively complete. Can't be finalized til league year begins 3/12. ... I do not know the other team. KC and JAX are 2 teams that make sense."

Update: Just in case you were wondering, the team in question receiving Alex Smith is not the Cleveland Browns, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Fantasy Analysis:

Following this report, the Florida Times-Union sent a proper text message to Jaguars general manager David Caldwell about a possible Smith trade. According to the Times-Union's Ryan O'Halloran, Caldwell responded via text with "not us." OK.
That leaves the Chiefs as the most sensible choice. But let's be clear: No matter whom the Chiefs' quarterback is last year, it won't really matter for fantasy purposes unless they re-sign Dwayne Bowe @DwayneBowe82. I am not a Jon Baldwin fan.
