Every single reporter in the St. Louis area has expected Rams running back Steven Jackson
to void the final year of his contract and become a free agent for some time now. On Feb. 17, we heard that Jackson becoming a free agent was "almost universally expected" inside the organization. Now, we have confirmation. Or rather, something as close to confirmation as possible before free agency begins March 12. Such a move can't be made official until that date.
Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch wrote Monday that Jackson "will" void his contract and see what offers await him on the market.
Fantasy Analysis:
When Jackson's decision does become official March 12, it won't really be news, but I'll write something about it. It's the right business decision for Jackson, who will be a free agent for the first time in his career. He doesn't risk anything by testing the waters, and the Rams will put a lot of effort into re-signing their all-time leader in rushing yards. I think Jackson will end up as a Ram for life.
