The Vikings were already unlikely to pay wide receiver Michael Jenkins his roster bonus of nearly $2.5 million. Today, they made sure they didn't. The Vikings cut Jenkins after two seasons in which he totaled 78 catches, 915 yards and five touchdowns in 27 games. According to Tom Pelissero of 1500 ESPN Twin Cities, releasing Jenkins saves the team $3.25 million in salary cap space, putting them a little more than $17.5 million under their adjusted 2013 cap.
Fantasy Analysis:
Jenkins will try to latch on as a reserve wide receiver somewhere, but it won't be worth tracking for fantasy owners. He hasn't been worthy of a roster spot in a 12-team league since 2008, and he has never topped 800 receiving yards in any of his nine seasons. Jenkins will turn 31 in June and will be remembered as a 2004 first-round bust in a round that was full of WR busts ... and Larry Fitzgerald.
The only impact this has on the Vikings is that Jenkins is 6-foot-4. They really need to look for a tall wideout in the draft or free agency.
