If you beat 'em, join 'em? I don't think that's how the adage goes, but that's how you can describe Anquan Boldin
's move today. The Ravens have traded the 32-year-old wide receiver to the team they defeated in last month's Super Bowl, the San Francisco 49ers. Baltimore received a 2013 sixth-round pick in return. Boldin, who will turn 33 in October, caught 65 passes for 921 yards and four touchdowns last season.
Fantasy Analysis:
The Niners have found the veteran wide receiver to replace Randy Moss, I guess. Boldin was absolutely, positively not going ot take a pay cut and without one, the Ravens were just going to release him. So, while Boldin is worth more than a sixth-rounder, the team did a nice job of getting anything for a player who was destined to be a free agent. Boldin is going to an offense with a little more firepower than his previous one, so his target and catch totals should take a little dip. He should be the Niners' No. 3 receiver, at the very most, behind Michael Crabtree
and tight end Vernon Davis
. Boldin will get his 55-60 receptions for 850 yards and a handful of touchdowns. In other words, even after the change of scenery ... meh.
The Ravens will be looking for a new No. 2 WR in the draft or free agency.
