Running back Jonathan Dwyer
has committed to play for the Steelers for another season. Two days after the team tendered him at the sixth-round level, Dwyer signed his tender offer on Monday. The one-year deal is worth about $1.3 million.
Dwyer gained 623 yards and averaged four yards per carry last season. He provided the highlight of the year for Pittsburgh's fluctuating backfield in 2012 when he rushed for at least 100 yards in consecutive games. He became the first Steelers running back in more than four years to do so. But that short period of success ended quickly as Dwyer struggled in the season's second half, averaging 3.3 yards per carry during the final eight games.
Fantasy Analysis:
Isaac Redman
was also tendered on Saturday, but he has yet to sign. Dwyer and Redman are currently Pittsburgh's top two running backs, with Dwyer probably the starter if the 2013 season opened today. But -- news flash -- it doesn't, and the Steelers will add to this group. Hopefully they will bring in someone more versatile than Dwyer and Redman, who are more specialty running backs.
