Patriots sign Welker-like WR Danny Amendola

Not long after Wes Welker signed on with the Broncos, the Patriots pulled off the move that everyone expected: They reached an agreement with a younger, similar player in Danny Amendola @DannyAmendola. New England gave Amendola a five-year deal worth $31 million, including $10 million guaranteed.

Fantasy Analysis:

So, the other shoe drops. This is boon for Amendola, moving from Sam Bradford for Tom Brady.
For Brady, Amendola will not match Welker's production, but he helps the cause. He's been drawing Welker comparisons ever since he came out of Texas Tech, which is also Welker's alma mater. He is a short, quick, slot wide receiver who is a tough player over the middle with dependable hands. He should be able to top 100 receptions with Brady -- he had 63 catches in 11 games last year in St. Louis. But while Welker hasn't missed a game since 2010, Amendola has played in just 12 games over the past two seasons. And I don't think you can undersell Brady's awesome rapport with Welker. It will take time for him to develop such a relationship with Amendola.
If he can stay healthy, Amendola can be a WR2 in standard leagues and even better in PPRs. But he has to stay healthy first. Don't expect him to come right in and just put up Welker-type numbers.
This acquisition has Brady's fantasy value in a better position than it was earlier in the day, but his numbers will still suffer to some degree without Welker.
The Rams top-three receivers are tight end Jared Cook, and wide receivers Brian Quick @WORKAHOLIC_BQ and Chris Givens @CG1three. There is ample upside with everyone there.
