Chiefs news: QB Matt Cassel gets cut; TE Tony Moeaki underwent knee scope

Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel became expendable following the acquisitions of Alex Smith and Chase Daniel. On Thursday, he was officially kicked to the curb. Over the past two seasons, Cassel threw 16 touchdowns and committed 30 turnovers in 18 games. The Kansas City Star's Adam Teicher was the first to break the news.
Teicher also reported Wednesday that tight end Tony Moeaki @TonyMoeaki81 underwent arthroscopic knee surgery shortly after the season, but he is expected to be ready for offseason team activities in a couple of months.

Fantasy Analysis:

Cassel made it through four seasons with that foolish six-year, $63 million contract the Chiefs gave him in 2009. You knew it was time to move on when the home fans cheered as Cassel laid concussed on the Arrowhead Stadium turf in October. He will latch on as a backup somewhere. Minnesota and New England are the considered the likeliest landing spots.
While Moeaki's latest surgery isn't of long-term concern, it does make the Chiefs' signing of Anthony Fasano @Anthony_Fasano more understandable. Moeaki missed all of 2011 because of a torn ACL and he had another knee scope back in 2010. Moeaki is still the lead tight end, but Fasano is a nice Plan B. Both guys, however, are well outside the TE1 range in fantasy.

Excellent analysis Brian. As usual you were clear, accurate and succinct. Keep up the good work! It is because of Fantasy Analysis sections such as this that I continue to count on FFTB as my #1 source for FF information.
