Quarterback Matt Cassel wasn't unemployed for long. Mere hours after the Chiefs cut him this morning, Cassel signed a multi-year deal with the Vikings. It was first reported by FOX Sports' Jay Glazer. Specific terms of the deal were not yet known. There were also reports that the Vikings will give Cassel an opportunity to be their starting quarterback, but it is more likely that he will enter the season as Christian Ponder
's backup. NFL Network's Albert Breer reported that Cassel chose to go to Minnesota rather than the Buccaneers.
Fantasy Analysis:
As a result, the Vikings might try to trade Joe Webb. Minnesota obviously had its sights set on Cassel before he was officially released by Kansas City. As a backup, I guess you could do worse, but he shouldn't have any fantasy value this season. All that noise about him getting a chance to start sounds like posturing by the Vikings as a way to ensure Cassel's signature.
