Giants could bring back RB Brandon Jacobs

The New York Post has learned from a source with knowledge of the situation that the Giants have not ruled out re-signing running back Brandon Jacobs. Jacobs is a free agent after spending one miserable season in San Francisco in which he played in two games and got five carries as a 49er. Jacobs, who will turn 31 in July, spent his previous seven NFL seasons with the Giants.
"He'd love to return to New York, obviously," the source said about Jacobs.
Formal talks between the Giants and Jacobs' representation have yet to take place.

Fantasy Analysis:

You know why Jacobs would like a return to New York? Because nobody else wants him. I'm surprised the Giants are even considering it in the slightest. Jacobs used to be a bulldozer in pads, but he is now much more of a headache than he's worth. The Niners suspended Jacobs for three games after he bashed the team on Instagram during last season. Jacobs loves to run his mouth, and that's fine when you are producing on the field. But Jacobs has averaged just 3.7 yards per carry in his last 16 games. I don't know where Jacobs will play football next season -- I think there are decent odds that it isn't in the NFL -- but the Giants would be foolish to welcome him back.

Spot on analysis. Why would the G-Men fill a roster spot with something they know to be sub-par when they could use that spot for someone with upside?
