Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez underwent offseason shoulder surgery

Last week, there was a little story about Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez @AaronHernandez going through some different workouts and preparations in an effort to play a full 16-game schedule, something he has yet to do in his first three pro seasons.
And then just a few days later, today, we have another story about Hernandez and an injury. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Hernandez underwent shoulder surgery this offseason. There are no details as to when the surgery took place or what specifically needed repair. Rapoport tweeted that he's been told Hernandez won't participate in OTAs and spring practice, but the expectation is that he should be ready for training camp.

Fantasy Analysis:

Hernandez played in 14 games in each of his first two years and was limited to just 10 games last season due to a sprained ankle. In 2011, despite missing those two games, he amassed nearly 1,000 yards from scrimmage and seven touchdowns. His ceiling is still sky-high. Among tight ends, I would take only Rob Gronkowski and Jimmy Graham before Hernandez in fantasy drafts, but I think the gap between those two and Hernandez is clear and wide.

Hernandez is slowly creeping into that dreaded category of an "injury prone" player, ala Mathews and McFadden. If you can't, at least imagine 16 starts, it drops these type of studs down several Rnds, where they then become bargains.
