Vikings pay a pretty penny to draft WR Cordarrelle Patterson

As the first round of the NFL Draft was coming down the home stretch, the Vikings traded back into the fray, giving up four picks later on in the draft to the Patriots for the No. 29 overall selection. They used it to take Tennessee wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson @ceeflashpee84. He set the Volunteers' single-season record last year for all-purpose yards with 1,858.

Fantasy Analysis:

Patterson is raw. He played only one season at the Division I level after transferring from junior college. But I absolutely love this pick. Patterson is crazy athletic with 4.4 speed at 6 feet 3 inches tall and 205 pounds. He is awesome to watch in the open field and should be used as a punt and kick returner with Percy Harvin gone. He needs to work on his route-running, but if he can put it all together, he can be a stud in this league. Right away, I would expect a lot of growing pains, especially with Christian Ponder @cponder7 under center. The Vikings definitely overpaid for Patterson, but a squad of skill players that includes him, Greg Jennings, Jarius Wright, Kyle Rudolph and Adrian Peterson looks pretty impressive. Now, can Ponder get the ball to those guys consistently? We should remain skeptical about that.
