Boston Globe lists Patriots rookie WR Aaron Dobson as starter

It's only the opinion of one beat writer in April, so take it for what it's worth. On Saturday, Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe published his vision of the Patriots' current depth chart. One of the more interesting choices is listing second-round rookie Aaron Dobson as the team's starting "X" receiver. Fourth-round rookie Josh Boyce is listed second at that spot.

Fantasy Analysis:

Dobson is a big target at 6 foot 3 and he has outstanding hands. Boyce is under 6 feet but has fantastic speed and athleticism. If either one of them is going to start in an offense led by Tom Brady, obviously there is going to be some significant fantasy value involved. But keep in mind that Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman are around, and the two tight ends will dominate targets when healthy.
Also, Dobson and Boyce have some rather infamous history to overcome. Not that it is really indicative of what their individual careers will hold, but the Patriots haven't drafted and developed a productive wide receiver since Deion Branch in 2002. Bethel Johnson, Taylor Price, P.K. Sam, Chad Jackson, Brandon Tate, etc., have all come and gone. The presence of Brady didn't matter for them. Edelman isn't bad, but he hasn't surpassed 400 yards in any of his four seasons. Matthew Slater and Jeremy Ebert are still on the roster, but they aren't doing anything on offense. So excuse me if I'm not buying into a Patriots rookie WR, even if he is starting. Unless one of these two newbies has an eye-popping exhibition season, I'll wait for them to prove that they belong before investing.
