Panthers GM says 'anything's possible' regarding RB DeAngelo Williams

Before we let sensationalism draw you into this piece, it should be made clear that DeAngelo Williams @DeAngeloRB is still Carolina's No. 2 back behind Jonathan Stewart @Jonathanstewar1. The point is though that the Panthers' general manager acknowledged that "anything's possible [and] the roster is fluid" after a discussion regarding the addition of rookie back Kenjon Barner out of Oregon. Williams had nearly 30 percent of his rushing yardage and 40 percent of his rushing TDs in the regular season finale against the Saints. Before that, he was on pace to have his worst full season since his rookie year.

Fantasy Analysis:

Any fantasy owner who has owned Williams, even briefly, over the last four seasons already knows what I'm going to say. The former Memphis alumni has underwhelmed and has become expendable. He is 30 years old and is set to earn over $17 million over the next three years of his deal. Yes, he is signed through 2015. It isn't out of the question for the Panthers to consider moving in a new direction sooner rather than later since so much money is locked up in that contract.

The Carolina running back depth chart should read RB1 Cam Newton. Since the acquisition of Superman, both Stewart and D-Willy have become afterthought flex plays at best, which is very frustrating to FF owners who know if traded both could push for low-end RB1 status.
