Buccaneers DB Ronde Barber to retire after 16 seasons

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive back Ronde Barber has opted to retire after 16 seasons with the team. Barber was the final link to to many of the great Tampa Bay legends on defense like Derrick Brooks, Warren Sapp and John Lynch. Barber had started in 215 consecutive starts, tied for sixth-most of all-time and the most at his position and his 240 consecutive games played is tied for seventh all-time. He finishes his career with 1,234 combined tackles, 28 sacks, 16 forced fumbles, 12 fumble recoveries, 47 interceptions, eight INT TDs, four fumble recovery TDs, and 14 non-offensive touchdowns (fourth most of all-time).

Fantasy Analysis:

Barber isn't a lock for Hall of Fame and that's my opinion. Barber was never the best cornerback in the league, but his longevity and production puts him in near-elite company. His name is not quite on par with Deion Sanders or even Champ Bailey, but he did win a Super Bowl. Alongside his teammates though, he will probably be the last to go. Sapp is in, Brooks will get in eventually and Lynch also feels like a Hall of Famer. Former head coach Tony Dungy is almost assuredly going to get in as well. As part of an iconic championship defense, Barber has a chance to enter the Hall, it might just take a few extra years.

How far down a list of "Best NFL corners" would you have to go before you got to Ronde ? If you were doing it from memory, would his name even come up...? When debating reasons for induction, to much emphasis is given to longevity as opposed to exellence. He's not even my favorite Barber...Go Tiki, Go Tiki !!!
